The product

Simon’s first national mobile app brought mall discovery, store directories, property maps, local promotions, events, dining, and entertainment information into one experience. It launched in October 2010 for iPhone, with compatibility for iPad and iPod touch and an Android version planned.

Digital content in a physical place

The application reused the retailer promotions and mall events already organized through Simon’s web platform, then tailored that content to an individual property. Shoppers could favorite stores and deals, check a Simon Giftcard balance, change malls, and mark where they parked.

Foursquare, Facebook, and Twitter integrations reflected the social nature of a mall visit. The app connected information, utilities, and sharing without asking shoppers to leave the Simon experience.

National scale

Simon’s launch announcement says the application served more than 180 properties across the United States. That scale meant supporting many local destinations and a large, changing catalog of stores, offers, events, and property information through one product framework.
